And what advantage does Anet have in keeping us playing GW1 ? I could see Anet jerking our chain's if we paid a monthly fee to play the game, but we don't. They're not going to pay the bills waiting for us to buy char slots.
If GW 2 is not vaporware, I expect to hear something about it's release in the next 6 - 9 months with a release date of April 2010.

I was on GW these past few days and was hearing words out of players saying we'll get the GW2 beta sometime this year. I know not to trust random players since their information is not accurate. Not to mention there are little or no information (screenshots) released for GW2 yet. All we know is some of the storyline and 4 to 5 races that we'll be using in the game.
Who thinks we'll get information on the beta first?

I like many others I think have dwindling hopes that it will ever be released. I can't recall a game that has been in development for so long without *any* news at all and that has gone on to be actually released successfully.
The longer things go on, the more likely it is to be cancelled. There's not raising exepectations and there's utter silence. Not raising expectations can easily be done, by careful press releases. Utter silence in any industry regarding a new product is almost invariably bad news.
I'm not 100% sold on the idea it's never going to come out, but the more it drags on the more I think that may be the case.
Ofc now i've said that, we'll get a 1000 page spread on GW2 tomorrow

They will release info on GW2 when they see that people are leaving GW massively so that they return and grind some more titles in hope for GW2.

What's DNF? Duke Nuke'em Forever?
My guess is that we'll hear something around April.
And to everyone or any one who mentions D3, keep in mind that it's been in development for years.

GW is like all other f2p games out there, once they stopped selling expansions, their only income is micro-transactions. Servers are pre paided for periods of time, so they can't just shut down servers once population drops on the fly to cut cost. Also when you have more people playign your game, they more people buying stuff from ur cash shop. They have every assentive to keep a decent player population.
Why else when people asked on Reggies talk page about information about server population over periods of time, she refused saying such data could hurt the game, i.e give ammo to the Guildwars is Dying threads. Same things happen when the imfamous Flagship removed the /who command from hellgate so people couldn't actually see how bad the game was bleeding.
This is why vaporware (GW2) and the HoM are only there to keep people playing the game so they would buy character slot, mule accounts, pvp upgrades, est.

It may be still so early in development there's just nothing to show. Or maybe they're trying really hard to start the action as soon as possible and slam it in a full working open beta this summer followed by release in autumn. We know nothing.
In a similar thread by the end of 2007 I 'predicted' May'08 as the moment when real GW2 info will start to flow. Nothing did I know, ofcourse.
This time I can make another wild guess, and nothing more than a guess:
Start of real information, media and promotion - June'09
First open beta - Q4 2009
Release - Q2 2010
Optimistic. Because they can't afford a vaporware, it just can't last forever.

This thread is non-sense, it's a sort of collective prediction of the future.

Now, now, I remember in 2000 one shop had the release date of DNF. If they can keep up their vaporware running for more than 8 years, so can A.Net.

Patience is a virtue. People who use the word "vaporware" will be slapped with a wet smelly trout. And rumours are for bored people.

I'm in and have been in with the "after Aion's official release" crew for a few months. Aion is huge for NCSoft, as I'm sure they're expecting ANet's GW2 will be for them as well. Aion is expected to release in NA somewhere between March and May. We already know GW2 won't be until late in the year at earliest. Diluting Aion's buzz with GW2 doesn't seem like good practice when there will be plenty of time between releases. I personally think 2009 is going to be NCSoft's year, as they'll be part of the marketing of two highly anticipated games.
From reading forums and listening to players in games you start to understand how truly in need the genre is of something new that's really good, and run well. Aion and GW2 should really help that.
